Whyville

Ever been to Whyville?
Whyville is an online community for kids. It’s quite the virtual city. In fact, I’ll let them tell you what they’re all about:
Whyville’s 1.7 million registered “citizens” come from all over to learn, create, and have fun together. Whyville is their world. Whyville has places to go, things to do, and of course, people to see. Whyville has its own newspaper, its own Senators, its own beach, museum, City Hall and town square, its own suburbia, and even its own economy – citizens earn “clams” by playing educational games. And much, much, much more!

Get the idea? It’s a well-supervised place for your kids to go have fun and learn something.
As your child earns clams for learning, he or she can use them to buy a house or even run for Senator!
The first task for your youngster is to create their very own face. There are lots of face parts to choose from, and they will have a ball picking out the perfect ones.
You child can also contribute to the community newspaper, the Whyville Times.
With unsupervised social networking sites causing parental headaches, options like Whyville are welcome alternatives.
