We Shall Overcome

To understand where we are going as a nation, it is important that we understand where we have come from. Today’s FamSite looks at a part of struggle that Americans have faced as we all travel down the road to a more perfect union. It is a journey we are still making today.
The site is called We Shall Overcome. It is a list of sites that have been put on the National Register for their importance to the Civil Rights movement. This list of 41 sites and one road show the struggle that African Americans have faced for equality in this nation. Even though all races were involved, it was these brave individuals that placed not only themselves but also their families and home into the front lines for freedom. Each of these places have a special significance, but taken as a whole, they reflect the changes that have occurred in our country, and continue to occur today.
So enjoy your stop here today, and remember the thoughts of Dr. King, of what a wonderful country this will be when we are judged not by the color of our skin, but the character of our soul. Be sure to share this site with a friend.
