Tonight’s Survivor Episode Features An Expression of Christian Faith

Now in its 22nd season, CBS’s powerhouse show “Survivor” still amazes audiences.
Tonight’s episode is no exception.
Last week’s episode featured Matt and the crew reading from the book of Matthew in the Bible while Boston Rob expresses suspicion about people who are of a like mind.
This is similar to what many non-believers think of Christians, again showing the parallels between the microcosm of Survivor and the bigger picture of our society. Both show the disintegrated understanding of the strength of Christian faith.
The crew read about Jesus’ time in the wilderness, fasting for 40 days, and saw the parallel to their own situation in Nicaragua as part of the survivors’ time in the jungle. Rob is suspicious of their agreement and worries this alliance in Jesus could hurt his chances, not unlike the Pharisees suspicion of Jesus, his teaching and the disciples.
Tonight’s episode finds Matt back on Redemption Island, alone. In the darkness, he says a prayer, saying “I trust you; this is your will,” and “Thank you Lord, for this opportunity. Blessed be Your name.”
What? An expression of faith getting someone through a tough situation? Hold the phone – this just isn’t shown on TV these days. Applause to Matt for expressing his faith during a challenge. This is what we want our children to know about faith and finding strength from within during tough times.
