With money tight for many, Do It Yourself projects are a great way to give your home a refreshing facelift while minimizing the cost.

In this video, HGTV’s star of HammerHeads Carmen de la Paz gives Family First readers some super easy ways to create drama or whimsy in your home with paint; it’s not just for the walls anymore!

De la Paz is the owner of a design studio, as well as a carpenter, welder, woodturner and decorative painter. She also recently launched an on-line magazine You Can Do It!

Near the end of the interview, she also takes a few minutes to talk about what renters can do when they can’t make permanent changes to their homes. Enjoy!

It can reflect the interests of the owner or their occupation or their dreams. Sometimes paintings are put up on just a whim, such as one that I have in my living room that I bought for $10.00 at a garage sale. The name of the site is Elegant Horse Art. This is a site that specializes in the pictures of horse in all formats. There are pictures, art prints, posters, and photos. They are presented in a variety of sections, such as Sketches, Racing Art and Wild Horse Pictures. They offer reprints, limited editions and original artwork. There is also a selection of links to other sites that offer artwork as well. These prints make wonderful presents, either for Christmas, birthdays, going away, or just because.
The artwork is wonderful to look at, and is well organized. If you are looking for a nice portrait to spruce up one of your rooms, or for that special someone, this site can provide you with just the right one.

But the impact of that time is still being felt today. At this site you can look into the past, and see what happened up close and personal.

The site is called Eye of the Storm, one that features painting and watercolors of one Knox Sneden, a private during the War Between the States. These artworks came to light in 1994 when they were presented to the Virginia Historical Society. Here you can take an online journey of this war through the eyes of Pvt. Sneden, as well as reading his words (from his recently discovered diary). There is a section that features movies based on the works with commentary, as well as forums for discussions.

It can be relaxing, or it can be a study in trying to figure out what the artist is trying to say. These days, finding a message in a painting can be very difficult.

But at today’s FamSite, one can visit a gallery in England, and see some of the most pleasant paintings in the world. Called Collage, it is an online site of an image database containing 20,000 works from the Guildhall Library and Guildhall Art Gallery London. Here you can view and download some very interesting paintings in several categories, showing the many sides to the history of Great Britain. The variety is truly amazing.
