There is no doubt that in many ways, the Internet has been a boon and a huge timesaver in so many departments. So why then do we still feel like we never have any time? Well, one of the reasons might be that we don’t use our time online as effectively as we could. Here are some tips to make sure you aren’t wasting your time when you could be getting things done online.
1. Set filters on your email.
Wading through all that spam can be a huge timesink. Make sure that you have spam filters and that they function properly. Add all the people that you want to hear from to your address book so that your email client has a better idea of who’s a friend and who’s a foe.
2. Use technology to get MORE efficient.
The lesson here is that the Internet can save you tons of time if you let it. Chatting with someone via IM can save loads of time over a phone call…unless that is you engage in mindless chatter and end up just trading links to funny YouTube videos back and forth. Same goes for email. Make sure you are using the technology to speed things up, not slow everything down in the efficiency deparment.
3. Set time limits on surfing.
We all know how quickly an hour can slip away when we start going down the rabbit holes of related links. Try to be disciplined with yourself about the amount of time you spend aimlessly surfing the Internet.
