Silly Bandz Keep their Popularity Going with a New Movie

Last week, a new movie came out on DVD devoted to the Silly Bandz/Crazy Bandz/Stretchy Shape craze for kids.
“Bands on the Run” (Elastic, LLC, May 31st, 2011) is an animated adventure of 5 stretchy rubber bands – a flower Daisy, an airplane Amelia, a rock star Roxie, a television Ray and a light bulb Edison. They just want to be loved by a child and go on a whacky adventure to pursue this goal.
The animation is artsy – not the kind you might be use to with a Pixar or Disney movie – but it tells an interesting story about the bands and the mishaps they encounter while they try to get to the big box store to be sold to a child.
I wasn’t too sure about how the silly band trend was holding up since many schools have “band” them from their classrooms. I quickly found out that it’s still a big deal for the elementary school age when I wore one of the bands provided in the DVD box to a meeting a couple weeks ago. An 8-year-old girl was staring at my wrist and asked me about the band. She disappeared into her bedroom and reappeared with a plastic bag containing over 160 stretchy bands!
The movie also has a terribly catchy theme song that will not leave your brain for days.
In about 50 minutes, you will learn a little more about friendship, helping others and finding a true home.
