Rijksmuseum Amsterdam

Several years ago I had the opportunity to spend several months in the Netherlands. While there I did some of the usual tourist sightseeing, and discovered some interesting things about the Dutch culture. One of the most interesting attractions I visited is the subject of today’s FamSite.
Called Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, it is the online site for the largest collection of art and history in the Netherlands. It is home to many famous paintings, including the works of Rembrandt, van Gogh, and others. There are over 1250 exhibits here, with online tours using QuickTime movies to show them. I spent over a day visiting this museum, and only had time to glance at a lot of the art pieces. This site does a very good job of capturing the feel of the culture and history of this country. The paintings are so realistically presented that you feel you can reach out and touch them (in the actual museum you could reach and touch them, but I wouldn’t recommend it).
So if you are interested in art, history, or art history, this site will be a wonderful way to spend some time. There is something here for everyone. Enjoy your visit today.
