Online Unix Experience

Go back ten years, and UNIX ran the internet.
Practically every website was hosted on a UNIX box running apache web server.
UNIX has largely been supplanted by PC’s running linux in the web hosting world these days, but still has a very large corporate presence.
However, where you very seldom see UNIX is in a home environment.
But perhaps you would like to experience the real workhorse of operating systems. Today’s FamilyFirst pick allows you to do just that. It’s running BSD, the free version of UNIX for PC’s (and other platforms).

Typically UNIX, the site doesn’t mess with trivialities like a name. So we’ll call it Virtual UNIX Command Line.
Stuck? Just type “help” to see what command you can run.
And you can run any command you like. Unlike Windows, you simply don’t have the power to screw up your operating system with UNIX, unless you are logged in as the Big Boss. That also means you can’t unleash nasties like virii or spyware that do nasty stuff at system level.
And that’s why linux, the open-source version of UNIX, is the truly secure way to run your home computer.
