Currently the games of the Summer Olympics are under way down under in Australia. Every four years the nations of the world have gathered to compete in athletic competition in a wide and ever changing variety of sports. Today’s FamSite looks at a site that explores not only the current Olympics, but celebrates historic moments of the past ones.
Called Olympics History, and sponsored by Eastman Kodak, this site shows some of the images that have become icons of sports photography and our culture. Who can forget Rafer Johnson in Rome in 1960 winning the decathlon, or Jim Thorpe winning both the decathlon and pentathlon in Stockholm in 1912? The political unrest of the 1960′s was on display in Mexico in 1968, and the horror of Munich in 1972 is also shown. Cutting edge technology not only shows still pictures, but films and slide shows as well.
This is an interesting site that shows the true meaning of the Olympic spirit. It is a wonderful place to explore the history of these world games, and understand the importance they hold to this day. Enjoy your stop here today.
