New Sesame Street DVD Teaches Preschoolers about Bugs
June 20, 2010 No Comments
What a fun way to teach the preschool crowd about creepy crawlies! The recently-released Firefly Fun and Buggy Buddies (Warner Home Video) is so engaging, the kids don’t even know they’re learning.
With four chapters – Telly & Baby Bear’s Firefly Fun, Slimey (Oscar’s pet worm) Adopts a Pet Bug, Insect with (the always adorable) Jenny McCarthy and Elmo’s World Bug, this DVD is teaching while entertaining. Concepts go from simple like up and down and near and far to Spanish words, caring for a pet and the basic physiological structure of insects. The disk runs 48 minutes.
Parents can also control the subtitles – English, Spanish or Off and there’s enough parent-oriented humor thrown in to keep the older crowd interested.
Molly Shannon stars as a worker at the Bug Shelter where Slimey adopts a pet. McCarthy does imitations of different bugs and discusses what makes an insect an insect. The seemingly ageless Luís sings a beautiful little tune about a firefly that will be stuck in your head for the rest of the day. They’ve even included the classic “Ladybug Song” from the old Sesame Street!
A few of the bugs the kids learn about include fireflies, ants and butterflies. As the DVD cover says “Get snug as a bug and light up your summer night with Firefly Fun and Buggy Buddies.”
