New DVDs from Scholastic Sparks Kids’ Love of Stories
July 26, 2011 No Comments
Two new sets of DVDs have hit the market full of old favorites and newer stories that your children will simply love.
My three-year-old son loves the “I’m Dirty and I Stink: The Kate and Jim McMullan Collection” ($19.95). He likes to tell me that at random times.
He and his 6-year-old brother were glued to the TV for both DVDs. The tales are about trucks and trash and boats and bikes – all manner of transportation.
“I Stink” tells the story of a New York City garbage truck that eats alphabet soup. The sister tale “I’m Dirty” appeals to the construction-loving crowd and tells about a backhoe who likes to get grimy while he works.
Celebrity narrators on the two disks include Andy Richter, Forest Whitaker and Steve Buscemi. The other ten stories are:
- Burt Dow: Deep Water Man
- The Paperboy
- Stars! Stars! Stars!
- Fletcher and the Falling Leaves
- Johnny Appleseed
- Trashy Town
- The Remarkable Riderless Runaway Tricycle
- The Beast of Monsieur Racine
- Arnie the Doughnut
- Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel
Bonus features include a read along captioning and an interview with Kate and Jim McMullan.
The other new DVD on the market includes a very favorite board book “Good Night Gorilla” as its title story in the “Good Night Gorilla…And More Wacky Animal Adventures.”
This 3-DVD set, which retails for $24.95 includes 16 stories and a bunch of extras, including celebrity narrators such as Anthony Edwards, Mary Beth Hurt, Elle Fanning and Lynn Whitfield.
Besides the story of the sleepy zookeeper in “Good Night Gorilla” the set also includes:
- Danny and the Dinosaur
- The Day Jimmy’s Boa Ate the Wash
- Doctor de Soto
- The Napping House
- Flossie and the Fox
- Stanley and the Dinosaurs
- Zin! Zin! Zin! A Violin
- Happy Birthday Moon
- The Rainbabies
- Elizabeti’s Doll
- The Island of the Skog
- T Is For Terrible
- First the Egg
- What Do You Do With a Tail Like This?
- Joey Runs Away
Additional features include the Spanish version of Danny and the Dinosaur, The Day Jimmy’s Boa Ate the Wash, Doctor de Soto and Joey Runs Away, read along captioning and several interviews with the contributors.
