How Safe Is Your Child’s Shampoo?
April 19, 2011 No Comments
We always assume the products that are approved for our children are safe, right? I mean, they’re for kids so how could they be bad?
There is research that suggests the opposite for two popular ingredients in children’s bath products including body wash and shampoo.
According to a 2007 report in the New England Journal of Medicine, topical applications of lavender and tea tree oil can result in abnormal breast enlargement in males, also known as prepubertal gynecomastia.
The report notes that once the application of these substances was stopped, the issue resolved itself.
A line of baby and children’s shampoo/body wash, soap, conditioner, hair gel and lotion from salon owner and hairstylist Jennifer Reilly called Jenerations Baby is free of these and other potentially dangerous substances. In a market that is scarce in salon-quality products for children, Reilly’s products fill a gap.
“No longer are parents forced to settle for using second-rate ingredients on their child that contain harsh components. Now, parents can bathe, moisturize and style their children with a safe, professional product line created specifically for our smallest consumers.” says Reilly.
Using only natural ingredients such as extract combinations of comfrey, rosemary and chamomile; aloe vera, sweet almond oil, apricot kernel oil and jojoba oil; Vitamin E and Vitamin A, all are tested by pediatricians and dermatologists.
I was provided with product samples and I can tell you, they smell amazing. My young son likes the smell of the lotion and I use the hair gel myself. The retail price for these items ranges from $7.00 to $15.00 and are available in certain retail locations such as Babies “R” Us, buybuy Baby, Kidville, Taylor’s Baby and online at Amazon.com.
