Homer Hickham Online

It has been several months since one of the best books of 2001 (in my opinion) published, At that time we paid a visit with the author of the book at his websiste. Since that visit, he has been quite busy as you will see when we visit his website today.

Called Homer Hickam Online, this site is looks at the works of Coalwood, West Virginia’s most famous citizen, and the resulting attention it has received. Here you can find out about his books “Rocket Boys”, “Back to the Moon”, and “Torpedo Junction”, “A Coalwood Christmas”, and the one I mentioned earlier, “Sky of Stone”. The site contains a question and answer section, a biography and photograph section, extensive links to the town of Coalwood and the film “October Sky” (including a section on what the people in the book are doing), as well as an extensive links section relating to Homer, the films and books, and, of course, outer space. Now is an especially important time to visit Coalwood, as they are struggling to recover from a devastating spring flood. There is a link at the site that tells how you can help.

The magical spell that is Coalwood, Homer has cast over the readers and viewers and is indeed special. As you will see from this site, Homer’s message of a rocket not being able to fly unless someone lights the fuse is truly alive and well in our country. But an underlying focus on relationships with family and friends comes through loud and clear. This is truly a site for the whole family.
