Help Ease Your Kids’ Fears with a Little Magic

Which one of these have you heard from your kids:

There’s a monster under the bed.

I’m scared I’ll have a bad dream.

I don’t want to go to the first day of school.

I’m homesick.

If your kid has ever said any of these things to you, Debbie Glickman, founder of Fairytale Wishes Inc., has an answer – magic spray! Made from natural aromatherapy ingredients, Fairytale Wishes spray can help your children face some of their biggest fears with confidence, or at least fewer tears.

Out of need, Glickman came up with the idea of using aromatherapy after she realized spraying expensive lavender spray on her son’s pillow at night helped relieve his nighttime fears and made his transition into a “big boy” bed easier. “He went right to sleep; it was like laughing gas,” Glickman tells Family First.

When she realized there was nothing like that available specifically for kids, she decided she could do the product herself by adding some glitter, non-toxic natural ingredients and eventually, a wonderful personalized story addressed to each kid.  Now the line has four products:

  • Sweet Dream Spray – “helps chase bad dreams away” and have a good night’s sleep with a soothing lavender scent.
  • Monster Repllent Bubblegum Spray – because monsters HATE bubblegum because it gets stuck in their fur and tentacles. This spray actually scares them!
  • Super Hero Spray – give your kids an extra dose of courage for the first day of school, going to the doctor, going for a sleepover and so on. The peppermint spray gives energy and also helps soothe nausea and upset stomachs. (My kids like it before their sports practices and games for even better performance.)
  • Happy Camper Spray - the smell of grape jelly reminds kids of home and helps alleviate homesickness when they’re away at sleepover camp or any other night away from home.

When you buy the spray from the website, you can enter your child’s name and Freddy the Fairytale Wishes Frog will send him or her a personalized story card about the spray they receive. It’s a personal touch because kids love seeing their name on things, she says.

The story cards came about after a mom wrote to Glickman about her daughter who had been fighting cancer. She needed to go back to the hospital for more tests and was feeling anxious. Glickman decided a letter back from Freddy with some Super Hero Spray could help make the little girl feel better.  Turns out the smell of peppermint in the spray actually helps fight an upset stomach or nausea which are effects of chemotherapy.

Besides being able to purchase the sprays on the website, they are also available at retail locations in several states as well as in several foreign countries including Russia, Ireland and South Africa, with more states and countries being added often. Check the website for the store locator. She is also in talks with a major retailer so soon the product may be available nationally.

All of Glickman’s aromatherapy products are made in Libertyville, Illinois, near where she lives, so she can visit and see exactly what is being put in her products and know the people who are making these products. She also donates part of the proceeds to charity. There are several new ideas in development so be sure you check back often to see what else she has available to add a little magic to your child’s life!
