Failure Is Not An Option

One of the most historic moments of the 20th century was when man landed on the moon for the first time. One of the most suspenseful times was the aborted moon landing of Apollo 13. Today’s FamSite looks at one of the common links to those two missions, and links to many other space flights as well.

The name of the sight is Failure Is Not An Option. It is the online site of Gene Kranz, and is based on a quote he made during the Apollo 13 flight. This site tells about his recently published book, which details his 30 plus years with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). You can learn about the high times of the space program, as well as some of the low points. But you get the story straight from one of the key players to some of the most historic moments in our nation’s history. This site complements the book, as it includes some parts that were edited out of the final copy, as well as some technical aspects that are explained. It is indeed an interesting insight to our manned space program.

This book gives us a chance to see what happens behind the scenes of our space flights. It is a chance to see and learn about the men in the trenches, the unsung heroes who support the astronauts who fly to the stars. Enjoy this site, and then enjoy the book.

  1. William Wise says:
I would like to contact Mr. Kranz because my father recently died and was in the room he 'incarcerated' the engineers in to make the 'mailbox'. He also was the person who would not give up until they put the duck tape on the flight manifest. My desire is to e-mail him. Bill Wise, son of Bob Wise of ILC Dover, space suit contractor.
