Dr. DementoJanuary 7, 2006 No Comments
I downloaded an album of songs this week that looked . . . well, interesting. It was The Very Best Of Dr. Demento.
I have to tell you, I can’t get “There’s Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow, starboard bow” out of my head. That song is “Star Trekking” by The Firm.
What I’m trying to say is that Dr. Demento ROCKS! He’s been serving up bizarre music since 1970, and he’s still going strong.
The site has lots of cool things going on. For instance, let the Doctor read your mind. It’s wild. He got it right the first time with me. How did he do that?
Have the Doctor take your picture through your monitor. Once again, it’s pretty eerie how well it works.
Of course, Dr. Demento is known for funny songs, not tricks. Check out his lists of the funniest songs of each year from 1972 to 1999. It’s interesting that certain songs, like Bulbous Bouffant by Radio Free Vestibule appear year after year.
See extensive playlists from past Dr. Demento radio shows. Man, there are some obsessed fans out there! Read the discographies of such regular Demento fare as Firesign Theater, The Bonzo Dog Band, Shel Silverstein, and of course Weird Al himself (who certainly owesa lot of his success to the Doctor).
Download your own Dr. Demento screensaver, too. And you can download Demento-approved songs for VERY reasonable rates, too.
Have fun at today’s FamilyFirst site. “It’s worse than that, he’s dead, Jim, he’s dead, Jim, he’s dead, Jim . . .”
