Dad’s War: Finding and Telling Your Father’s World War II Story
May 25, 2000 No Comments
As we approach Memorial Day, 2000, we have started taking a look at the conflicts that have made this day what it is: a chance to remember the men and women who died for this country, paying that ultimate sacrifice. We have looked at a site that explored Vietnam; today we look at a site that focuses on World War II.
The site is called Dad’s War: Finding and Telling Your Father’s World War II Story. It is a site that started as one person’s way to honor his father and his military service, and has grown to become the premiere site for helping others to find out about their relatives service in that war. There are seemingly unlimited resources available on this page, and the links that it has. Information sources range from the War Bride Registry to the Drop Zone Virtual Museum, which features the parachuting activities of Japanese- and African-American servicemen. The author has also included several ways of how to conduct the research, both the basic and the advanced. Several examples are given. There are also links to people who have done the research, and are sharing their relative’s experiences.
Remembering the members of our armed forces is extremely important. Memorial Day is just the day for those memories. Today’s FamSite is one that helps keep those memories alive. Enjoy your visit here today.
