Cyprus Food Guide
May 2, 2006 No Comments
I LOOOOVE eating. I really like experimenting with ethnic foods. By being open-minded about trying new things, I have learned, among other things, that escargot is delicious, and that I have an absolute passion for sushi!
So today, I thought I’d pick out an ethnic cuisine that I have never experienced and, sadly, may never). I landed on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus.
Today’s FamilyFirst site is Cyprus Food Guide. Here’s their mission:
Relax and let yourself slip into the Cypriot pace of life. Why not take a seat by the sea, under a vine pergola or mimosa tree and sip your first brandy sour, or an ouzo. Nibble on a nut or even better, pass the time with a handful of sunflower seeds or passatempo as the Cypriots call them. Just sniff Cyprus and you could become intoxicated by, the tang of fresh lemons and the delicate citrus blossom, the wholesome smell of freshly baked bread or the fermenting grapes from the wine harvest.
Sound exotic? It really is.
What can you do at this website? Well, for one, you can tour a traditional Cypriot market. You are advised to go early in the day, before the freshest produce gets crabbed up. Shopkeepers will likely offer you fresh fruit to nibble on as you browse. There are many varieties of large black cherries to buy in June. You’ll be treated to the sight of fish so fresh it’s still slithering, and freshly-butchered lamb, beef, pork, and goat.
We are definitely NOT at Wal-Mart.
Sadly, the recipes link is broken, but you’ll still enjoy reading about a Cypriot passion: halloumi cheese. This cheese made from sheep’s milk with a hint of mint is used in nearly every Cypriot dish.
So enjoy today’s truly international FamilyFirst site.
