Clean Films

Going to the movies is an American pastime, for that past 110 years or so. For many years, it was our nations favorite past time. Many people still go to the movies, and it is a great source of entertainment. But when you go, you have to choose your films carefully so that your young ones are not exposed to too much violence or other non-family type entertainment. Today’s Family First site is one that can help put your mind at ease when it comes to what your family watches
The site is called Clean Films, an online site where you can rent DVD movies. So what, you are thinking, there are a lot of sites like this. But what sets this site apart is that the films you rent are edited for family viewing. This membership site uses current technology to edit films that are rate R or PG-13, and then removes the objectionable material.
Is this legal? According to their website: “Yes. CleanFilms is a Co-operative rental club. All subscribers to our service become members of the Co-op. The Co-op collectively purchases original, unedited DVD movies then has them edited – always maintaining a 1 to 1 ratio of edited and non-edited originals.
As owners of the original, unedited movies, the Co-op has the right to edit out content that is objectionable to its members – similar to how you might press mute to avoid hearing objectionable language today. Accordingly, you must subscribe as a member of the rental club before you can rent edited movies. ”
There is a wide variety of films available, from Childrens to Romance, Musicals to Foreign, with every type in between. This is a wonderful site, offering a wonderful service for viewers who want to monitor what their children watch, and keep movie viewing a family friendly experience.

It appears Family Edited Films is going out of business. Huge sale, but you have to buy at least 10 DVD's. Any suggestions on where I might find edited DVD's now? My son is 5. He likes Iron Man, Spiderman, Transformers. The toys for these films are in the toy department and in the kids meals, creating a desire to see the movie. Yet, the language, violence and sexual content makes it inappropriate for his age. I need something like Family Edited DVD's.
  2. Jessica says:
I totally agree. In fact, with cleanfilms now gone, familyediteddvds.com is the best place to get edited movies.
  3. Jim says:
You get FREE edited backups of any DVD you purchase at www.familyediteddvds.com They have over 700 movie titles and are growing rapidly.
  4. Dave says:
You can buy edited movies at www.goodmoviesonline.com

Where can I buy (not rent) Cleanfilm type videos?

Does anyone know what credit card charges for $9.95 would be? There were two on my Sept '06 statement. Is there any way to contact cleanfilms to ask about it?? Thanks.
  7. Angela English says:
OK, I just found out that the church did receive a refund on the credit card for the movies that they did not receive. Some communication would have been nice and cut down on the confusion. Thanks for the information, Lillian!
  8. Lillian says:
I ordered movies from cleanfilms also. I received 6 in August. I just got my credit card statement with a refund for the rest. I never received any communication regarding this from CF.
  9. Angela English says:
Unfortunately, you are not the only one that this happened to. I bought several movies for my home and $185 worth for the youth group at church. I have received less than half of my movies and no refund. And there is no apparent way to contact Clean Films any longer about this. If anyone knows how to contact them, please let me know.

I personally kied cleanfilms and was very satisfied with them, until the Judge ruled they had to close. THen I ordered all the moives I could afford before they closed. Unfortunately for me they sent 4 movies and did send my other 3 before they shut their doors. I hope that they have a chance to give us our movies we purchaseor at least a refund. I know that I am not the only one this has happened to. Or am I?

Maybe I missed something, but Family Edited DVDs does not provide a rental service. They ONLY provide a service of editing movies...AND you must already own the original. Perhaps you are confusing them with another company with a similar name (ie Family Safe DVDs). I have been using Family Edited DVDs for the past two years to edit my movies. I have never seen them offer a rental service.
  12. Tracy says:
We used Family Edited DVDs for one month. We also had a subscription to CleanFilms.com and thought the services were going to be similar. However, Family Edited DVDs provided a 14-day rental service, but I didn't know it at the time I signed up for their service. My sister and I both subscribed and each rented 6 movies at one time to take on our almost 3-week vacation out of the country. Because we were unknowingly late in returning the DVDs, our subcription was cancelled, we were each charged a cancellation fee and the cost of each DVD. When you add that to the cost of the subscriptions, we paid around $300 for 12 movies. We returned all the DVDs in the postage-stamped envelopes the company provided. However, the company says we will not receive a refund because we can't "prove" we returned them without a tracking number. How are we supposed to provide a tracking number using the envelopes THEY provide? While customer service (email only) is prompt, it is very cold and unfriendly. They don't care about their customers or their customer's concerns. It's unfortunate that companies can no longer provide edited DVD rental services; but I am extremely pleased that Family Edited DVDs will no longer be able to provide their awful rental services to other consumers.

right on DC! Also anyone that is a Christian out there, pray that this Judge that is making Clean Flims shut down get a real live damascus road incounter from God so that he changes his mind and lets Clean films stay in business!! I for one was in tears when I heard that they had to close. Please e-mail every christian you know and ask them to pray! get the whole world praying! also, for those of you that really want to go whole hog on this, what I'm doing is e-mailing all of the rebuplican sentors as well as the house of represenitives and the white house. Ask them to see what they can do about this! This isn't just about clean films going out of business, it's about hollywood trying to take away our freedom. Don't think that hollywood will be satisfied with just one edited movie site gone, they will probably go for all the rest as well. So if you want family friendly movies to still be around, we need to take a stand, now!

Just read the reviews and comparison of ALL the edited rental companies at http://editedmovies.ldsresources.net
  15. DC says:
Uh, just a dumb thought here for those of you who say it is illegal to edit a movie. Duuuhhh, I tink the broadcast networks do dat all duh time... And they don't just edit out graphic sex, cursing and violence. They cut scenes out to cram in commercials too. (gee really...?) How 'bout you take them to court on the copyright, artistic infringement thing?
  16. Bexter says:
Clean Films is terrible. The movies take forever to ship, they never ship you what is at the top of your queue and you can't call to cancel-even though you have to, the line is always busy or you get a message that says call back later. Certainly not worth the fee.
  17. David says:
Family Edited DVDs - http://www.familyediteddvds.com is an excellent place to get edited movies.
  18. Joseph says:
I've used Clean Films ( http://www.cleanfilms.com ), and their edits suck. I've also tried Clean Flicks ( http://www.cleanflicks.com ), but they take too long to send them. I've found that Family Edited DVDs ( http://www.familyediteddvds.com ) has been the best for me. Their edits are quality edits, response is quick, prices good, and excellent customer service.
  19. Rena says:
If it is illegal to alter and distribute copyright material, then why doesn't someone, US PTO stop this from happening? Are they not aware of what "CleanFilms.com" is doing to copyright materials?. Just a thought.
  20. Denise says:
Hi Could SOMEONE please e-mail me with either the phone # or the mailing address for CLEAN FILMS?? Their website is down and we want to cancel our membership. Anyone know what's going on? Thanks. Denise A.
  21. Mike says:
ClearPlayDVD has gone from a US$60 RCA (major brand name) to a US$250 Max (???) player. If a CleanFilms video does not work (by the way I have had 50 shipped and have had no defects) you can ship it back and get a new one sent out, if your 250 dollar dvd player breaks you will have to have it repaired (and we all know what that entails) and not be able to watch any dvds during that period.
  22. Do not do business with Clean Films. They will not respond to you through customer service, and they do not deliver in the time frame specified. I've sent 5 e-mails, with no response from them.

Lots of hobby lawyers here. The copyright is one of the most complicated laws, guess why could napster or emule exist for so long...
  24. Larry Zirker says:
We have been getting your movies for a couple of weeks and I really enjoy not have smut into the house. But I find that sometimes the quality of the CD is un-acceptable. We couldn't get through Brave Heart with out dozens after dozens of frozen frames and towards the end it jumped many a couple of time missing many sections. I had to wash it CD two times and it was not acceptable. Tonights film, it only stop 8 to 10 times and I had to clean it. I would make a suggestion that you tell renters to clean the CD or it may not work. A customer who is happy with your service, but not happy with your products.
  25. Neil L says:
At ClearplayDVD.com you can legally play and filter-out profanity, sex, and violence out of your favorite UNedited DVD Movies and stop paying high prices for modified DVDs. As you play the movie, it skips the parts you don't want to see. This allows you to borrow or rent movies from the video store and watch the filtered version. George Bush just signed a bill which passes that Clearplay can now sell these players legally. CleanFilms is still unable to make such a claim. http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/04/27/bush.movies.ap/ Passing this bill ended a long lawsuit between the director's guild and Clearplay. I'm anticipating this company to grow quickly and thought it would be profitable for you to advertise Clearplay on your website. Again, you can sign up for the affiliate program at http://www.ClearPlayDVD.com if you're interested.

It is clearly not legal to resell copyrighted material with your changes.
