In my neck of the woods, the mid-south, it has been as hot as blazes for the entire month of August. June and July were cool and rainy, but August came in ready to fight. We have broken 100 degrees seven or eight times.
So how do you keep your cool under such circumstances?
Well, one cl... continue reading...

Kids have always loved ripping open cereal boxes and eagerly rifling through the contents to find buried treasure. One of the earliest and most successful cereal giveaways was the baking powder submarine.
Often called baking SODA submarines, they sank to the bottom like stones if you ... continue reading...

"Excuse me! Excuse me! I believe you have my stapler!"
Milton was very concerned about his favorite stapler, a red Swingline, in the movie Office Space. While the more normal amongst us are probably not as emotionally attached to our office equipment, we still depend hea... continue reading...

Cell phones. They have turned into a necessity that is like the Dallas Cowboys: people either love them or hate them.
Personally, I'm a hater. I carry mine with me everywhere I go, but snarl at it when it goes off. It seems like it's always somebody I don't want to hear from telling ... continue reading...

In my spare time (read: during history class ;-), I would add to the football action. It was pretty warped stuff. For instance, one player had... continue reading...

I received a gift five years ago that changed everything.
It was a basic Leatherman tool. Nowadays, it's known as the Kick. This incredible gadget came with a belt sheath, but its size is small enough that I carry it in my pocket like a pocketknife. And if by chance I lay it down somewhere, ... continue reading...

My old Linksys router kicked the bucket yesterday. It had been “coughing up blood” for a while, randomly dropping connections, but it served me well for the last five years.
So, I strolled into the local discount store to buy another. I'm not using wireless at this point, but I went ahead and got a... continue reading...

I've always loved good stereo in my cars. My 1965 Falcon I had when I was sixteen sported an underdash eight-track player and wedge surface-mount rear deck speakers. It wasn't much, but a clear improvement over the three inch squeaker and the AM radio. And besides, I remember that stereo soundin... continue reading...
