Camping with the Sioux

The study of our history can be fascinating. To learn how we have evolved as a country is interesting. But that study can be more interesting if the lessons being studied can be personalized, rather than just a list of dates and places. Today’s Family Site visits just such a place, one that will interest all visitors.

Called Camping with the Sioux, this site is a presentation of Alice Cunningham Fletcher and her life among those Sioux Indians. Here you can follow the events that led her from her birth in Cuba, to her schooling at Dartmouth, and a career as an attorney. But it was her interest in human life that brought her to go west so study the Native Americans. But while there she became interested in their way of life, and became an advocate for their welfare. Here you can study her work both in words and in photographs. There is a substantial amount of information at the site, but there is a wealth of supporting information that enhances the visit here.

So if you are interested in a look into our past, this is a great site for one to spend some time at. I am sure you will find it as interesting as I did. Enjoy your visit here today, and be sure to pass it on to a friend.
