Well, as a card-carrying member of the Baby Boomers, it’s time for me to pay homage to my fellow middle-aged youths (and throw in a teaser for a website I’m developing in the process).
What constitutes a Boomer? Opinions vary, but Wikipedia defines the Boomer generation as running from 1945 to the start of the Vietnam war. Others give the timeline as 1945-1960. I was born in 1959, so I qualify either way.
Actually, I use a different system that puts me right on the last edge. More on that later.
At any rate, today’s FamilyFirst pick will be fun for Boomers, and maybe even their offspring. It’s called Boomer Baby. And by the way, THEY define a Boomer as having been born from 1946 to 1964! As I said before, opinions vary.
The site is a treasure trove of memories. The elder statesmen recall such things as Howdy Doody, Sgt. Bilko, Doby Gillis, Highway Patrol, and Sunday Night Sullivan. Youngsters like myself remember Hogan’s Heroes, Batman (da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-Batman!), and Sunday Night Sullivan. Man, that guy was on FOREVER!
One contributor remembers being satisfied with twelve channels. I WISH! We had two that came in clear, four or five more that were quite fuzzy.
Anyhow, time for my teaser. I’m in the process of cooking up a Movable Type-driven site that will feature daily memory joggers for children of the 60’s. I can’t tell you the name, because my hosting service is in the process of updating stuff, and I can’t register it for a few hours. But it will be lots of fun, with a simple sentence or two and a graphic of the memory jogger, with lots of room for comments. Stay tuned.
In the meantime, enjoy Boomer Baby!
