Baseball Cards 1887-1914

With the home run record of Roger Maris being broken not once but twice this year has caused a renewed interest in the sport commonly called the great American pastime. With that in mind, today’s FamSite takes a look at an area that is near and dear to many sports fanatics’ hearts baseball cards.

The site is part of the Library of Congress’ continuing display of American Memories. It contains information on the library’s 2100 card collection of cards dating from the years 1887 to 1914. You can see rare cards of Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, Connie Mack, and Cy Young, among others. There is even a special display of the immortal double play combination of Tinker to Evers to Chance. There is information about the collection history, as well as the chance to order reproductions of the cards.

This is a great way to not only enjoy baseball cards and the sport, but to use our Library of Congress. Without the Internet, a chance to view memories such as this would be difficult, if not impossible.
