Anaglyphs

Today’s FamilyFirst site is actually a collection of sites. That’s because without a pair of blue/cyan 3D glasses, you can’t fully enjoy all of them. But bear with me. I will show you how you can get your own pair within a few days for the price of a couple of postage stamps.
Today’s FamilyFirst subject is anaglyphs: images which take on three dimensions when viewed through the aforementioned glasses.
A few years ago, I saw a movie about exploring the Titanic wreck that was filmed in 3D, and I was hooked. So when this year’s Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue showed up in the mail with a pair of 3D specs inside, I immediately wondered if there were any websites out there with anaglyphs ready for viewing.
The answer is a hearty YES!
First of all, to learn about the concept behind anaglyphs, check out Mark Newbold’s Stereo 3D Stuff. Not only does he teach you the physics behind anagluphs, he also has many examples of “cross eye” and “wiggle” images that also produce 3D effects.
NASA decided to take anaglyphic shots of the Martian surface through Opportunity’s and Spirit’s explorations. The result is a wealth of amazing images of Mars found here.
And finally, to get a free pair of glasses (you just need to mail a self-addressed stamped envelope), click here.
So get started enjoying amazing 3D images on the web today!
