Al Jolson, the World’s Greatest Entertainer
June 8, 2001 No Comments
His name may not mean much to viewers today, but the subject of today’s FamSite is one of the most famous singers of all time. He was the Michael Jackson/Elvis Presley/Perry Como of his day. So California, here we come…
The site is named after Al Jolson. It is the Offical WebSite of the International Al Jolson Society. He is mostly remembered today for being in the first talking picture, “The Jazz Singer”. But in the first part of the 20th Century, he was the biggest stage star, both on and off Broadway. Here you can find out about the man and his career, it’s highs and lows. He was so popular that he would stop the plays he was in, and entertain the audience (and cast) with improptu concerts. He was one of the first entertainers to enterain troops in World War II, and in Korea as well.
So wrap a rainbow round you shoulder and head on over. There is a lot to see and hear at this site. Enjoy your visit here today, and may your April showers bring May flowers.
