5 Ways to Naturally Fight Allergy Season
May 3, 2011 No Comments
Here it is again – the trees, the grasses, the flowers. People sneezing all around you. It’s allergy season.
The beauty of Spring can also be a nightmare for some once we open our doors and windows to the warmer weather and let all that glory – and pollen – into our homes.
Dr. Rohit Katial, a physician and professor from Denver’s National Jewish Health and a Fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, says, “Just like washing your hands, it’s important to rinse out your sinuses as part of a daily routine to stay healthy. With all the sinus wash products available on the market, I recommend Waterpik’s line of sinus rinse products, Waterpik SinuSense, because of ease of use, ergonomic eel, soft tip for sealing and the flow control valve.”
Here are 5 additional tips to help ease the symptoms:
- Vacuum 1-2 Times Per Week – this reduces dust mites and, if you have a HEPA filter, dust and allergens. Wear a mask and leave the house for a few ours after cleaning to help let the dust settle a bit after you stir it up.
- Keep Dust Mites Under Control – by using zippered covers for pillows and mattresses and washing sheets and blankets often in hot water, you can cut down on the dust mite population in your home.
- Keep Pets Clean and Brushed – don’t allow your pet to sleep on the bed and make sure you brush your pet outside. Also bathing your pet will help reduce allergens in the house.
- Reduce pollen exposure – use the recirculate setting on your air conditioner to keep new pollen from entering. Also, use a HEPA filter for this too. Reduce your exposure outside by finding out the pollen count at www.pollen.com.
- Avoid mold in your home – keep your home mold-free by cleaning often, fixing leaks and consider a dehumidifier if you live in a wet area.
While we can’t avoid allergens completely, we can try to alleviate the symptoms a bit. For more ideas, check out www.WaterpikSinuSense.com.
