13 Fun Summer Activities
June 10, 2011 No Comments
Here we are – summer is upon us. Do you have a lot of ideas for fun things but can’t keep them all straight?
Even though the kids have camp and vacations and all kinds of stuff going on, they also have ideas about things they want to do.
On the last day of school, my daughter made a list on a big post-it piece of paper and we have it in our living room. Each time we do one of the activities, she writes down the date and at the end of summer wants to make a bar graph of the activities we did – I’m SO proud!
Along with activities, don’t forget about simple skills and activities such as working on multiplication tables, practicing reading and cursive or making something like a sewing project, baking project or small construction project like a birdhouse. Maybe it’s time to learn to type, to ride a bike or tie your shoes! Make sure all of this is fun and not a chore.
Here are some ideas on our list that might spur something for your family:
- · Swimming/run through sprinkler/”wash” the car
- · Picnic (can be in the backyard)
- · Playing at the park
- · Camp in the backyard, or go camping
- · Museum (on cloudy days) – natural history, children’s museum, art museum
- · Fishing (dad required)
- · Library to research a topic they’re interested in
- · Ice skating/rollerblading
- · Hike (pack snacks, sunscreen and water) – don’t forget national parks, state parks and county open space or wildlife preserves.
- · Daytrips – near us, we can go to Wyoming for the day or down to Colorado Springs or the mountains.
- · Putt-putt golf/go-carts/bumper boats
- · Batting cages/driving range (ok, the second one is for me)
- · Seeing new movies at the theater (look for theaters that have twilight pricing for a discount)
This list is nowhere near comprehensive but maybe it gives you a start. Have a blast, take snacks and remember, it’s ok to do nothing too. It’s summer!
